ERASMUS APPLICATIONS TO THE IPS
We are delighted that you have decided to do your study
exchange at Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS).
Here you may clarify our application procedure and deadlines,
accommodation options, language course offer and the
Mobility Coordinators contacts.
The applications that do not follow these procedures will not be
accepted. Furthermore, the applications which have not been
confirmed by the international office of the sending institution
will be disregarded. Finally, note that the applications must be
approved by our mobility coordinators.

Application Procedure
Concerning the application procedure, you’ll have to send us
the following documents:

- Copy of your ID card or Passport
- Copy of the European Health Insurance Card
- 1 original photo
After preparing all documents, please ask your International
Relations Office to send them, by e-mail
(cimob@sc.ips.pt) and
it by post mail to the following address, and remember them
that
you must be nominated (by e-mail to cimob@cimob.ips.pt –
with student’s name, gender; area of study; mobility period
(autumn or spring semester or both); student’s e-mail
contact)), otherwise your application won’t be accepted.

Once the Learning / Training Agreements are approved by our
Mobility Coordinators, we’ll send to your International

Office one signed Learning Agreement and the Acceptance

Accommodation
The Centre for Internationalisation and Mobility of the
Polytechnic Institute of Setubal (CIMOB-IPS) will not take
responsibility for your accommodation.
However, we list some options:
- Santiago’s Students Residence from IPS
Students Welfare Services (SAS), located about 2 km far form
IPS Campus in Setúbal – there’s a bus, leaving from Setúbal,
which stops near the Students Residence and near this
Campus.

Be aware that there’s a limited number of rooms at
the Santiago’s Students Residence. Applications will be
registered by arrival order.
There isn’t any public transport directly from the Students
Residence to Barreiro School of Technology.
- You may also contact some Real Estate Agencies, for

and ask for a room or an apartment to rent. Please remember
that IPS Campus in Setúbal is not in the city centre. If you
want to stay near this Campus, the residential areas near
the Campus are: Manteigadas and Praias do Sado.
If you want to check it at the Google Earth, IPS Campus in
Setubal is located in a small place called Estefanilha – use
references
"Rua Vale de Chaves, Setúbal".
When contacting the Real Estate Agency you should let them
know if you prefer to stay in the city or near the campus.

Learning
Portuguese
The Portuguese Language and Culture Course (5 ECTS) is
offered to incoming students who doesn’t speak Portuguese
and
must be include in your Learning Agreement.
In autumn semester it will have two levels:
- Level A1 for students who doesn’t speak Spanish
– intensive course – starting before the semester - from 3rd
September to 10th October.
- Level B1 for students who speak Spanish –
during hole semester - starting the same day as regular
classes
(usually during September)
In the spring semester it will have only Level
A1 and will take place from 31 January to 18 February
2012(dates to be confirmed).
This is not an obligatory course, but it’s very important to
students’ integration, even because most of the classes are
lectured in
Portuguese.
Students who attend the Portuguese Language and Culture
Course in the autumn semester will not repeat the Course in
the spring semester.

Incoming Students an
International Module lectured in English.
Students from Spain may attend classes in Portuguese from
the regular degrees available at the School.

Academic
Calendar
The academic calendar is not established at the moment and it
may be different from School to School.
Usually, the autumn semester starts in the middle of
September and ends in January next year. Then, in February
there is a break for the final exams.
The spring semester starts in February/March and ends in
June. The final exams take place in July. As soon as the
academic calendar is published we will inform you.
